Also risky: Seroquel (quetiapine) is also considered risky - higher chance of miscarriage, etc. Some psych meds are less risky than others - but none are safe entirely. Your SSRI may even be questionable. Talk w/ your OBGYN or have the 2 doctors confer. Consider CBT therapy as option. It can support you through this stage of life w/out risks. Congrats!

Depends: A single dose of 0.25mg of Alprazolam will not cause harm, however benzodiazepine medications such as Alprazolam and others, when used regularly can significant increase the risk of cleft palate and other structural development, especially in the first trimester. Consult with both your ob/gyn and your prescribing doctor before using such meds.

See below: Any potential for birth defects have likely materialized.  3rd trimester detoxes are associated with risk of premature delivery.  The baby will be born dependent and may go thru withdrawal.

: The literature is somewhat controversial on this topic. Apparently the risk to the fetus is very small, less than .7% according to one study.  Since you only took 3 doses the risk would be extremely minimal.  Your OB may have more information about this.

Not your fault: this can just happen. most likely the fertilized egg had genetic defect and so would not have grown well anyway. so this is your body's natural defense against having a baby with a birth defect. unlikely to be related to xanax (alprazolam).

Xanax (alprazolam): Xanax (alprazolam) should not be taken in pregnancy. It can result in withdrawal of the fetus at birth.  It is reported to be associated with developmental delays, skeletal anomalies, and problems with brain development.  Please discuss this your physician.
