Varicocele: It is a very common surgery done by Urologist and it should be very safe, although every procedure has risk and in hand of an experienced surgeon the complication is very low, but complication includes Bowl damage, bleeding, infection, Anesthesia complications, etc.

Suppose to: I do not know what kind of symptoms you are having , but people supposed to feel better after surgery not worst. Any surgery carry with it many complication and side effect. My advise get a second opinion and examination from a different urologist

: It is always good to tell your Dr everything. Especially if they are putting you to sleep.  Should be no medical hangoverat 15 days but still mention it. Here we always ask.

Always ask surgeon: It's a surgeons responsibility to describe the any procedure or operation beforehand also all benefits ; risks. Wonder why ur having this surgery at age 49, this is unusual. Too late to affect fertility ; varicoceles usually don't cause much discomfort. Surgery can be done via laparoscope (my preference), open microsurgery at neck of scrotum or open abdominally through a hernia type incision.

Sometimes: If all the stitches are plaed under the skin they will not be removed. If they can be seen they will be removed after an appropriate period of time, usually 7 to 10 days.

Manage varicose vein: Varicocele is most like a varicose vein, a dilated venous structure in the scrotal sac rather than in the leg. Compression is a management tool, but does not solve the problem. They are mostly benign, ie don't add risk to your health. If you have an associated inguinal hernia, then repair hernia and have varicocele resected at the same time.

Surgeon should tellU: Surgeon ; anesthesiologist should explain it all to you beforehand. Varicocele surgery can be performed by laparoscope (my preference) or by open surgery either on the scrotum or by abdominal surgery similar to an appendix operation, but., on the left. Good luck.

Varicocele: Costs varies from hospital to hospital and from doctor to doctor. It is an effective way to treat varicocele but I do not believe there any studies comparing results and outcomes.
