can cervical radiculopathy cause shoulder "joints" pain? would it give a sense of impingement in shoulder area?

Accepted Answer

Yes it can.: The upper cervical nerves C4 and C5 innervates the shoulder. You will then likely have pinched nerve at C3/4 or C4/5. Shoulder joint wear and tear is also common and can make it confusing. It is unlikely for you to have both. You need spine surgeon and a shoulder specialist to help you out.

i will get cortisone for frozen shoulder friday.  it will be guided into the joint. will it also help with my impingement/tendinitis/bursitis?

Hard to say...: All of the conditions that you mentioned are distinctly different from one another. A frozen shoulder would not typically be treated with steroid injections. Usually, physical therapy or manipulation under anesthesia (basically, wrenching your frozen shoulder loose while you're sedated) is necessary to treat this. Some impingement caused by bursitis or tendinitis is improved with steroid shots.

i have l. shoulder impingement w/frozen shoulder. given 2 shoulder problems should a guided cortisone shot go into the subacromial space or the joint?

Subacromial: If u have impingement syndrome and a secondary adhesive capsulitis an injection into the subacromial space is warranted followed by a pt program to regain shoulder rom.If no improvement after a dedicated p.T. Regimen then selective arthroscopic capsulotomy and decompression followed by therapy to improve motion is often very helpful.Best of luck!

20mths post acl recon - graft impingement & cyclops lesion. knee has swollen & now has pain in the joint ard the top of the tibia: front/medial side?

May need scope: Graft impingement after arthroscopic acl surgery w/ resultant formation of a " cyclops" lesion is an unusual but well- known complication.Non-operative treatment is generally not helpful. See your ors for possible arthroscopy/ debridement/ roof-notchplasty. Discuss w/ your surgeon pre-op the possibility that revision acl reconstruction may be neccessary if graft is not viable. Gl!

i had a right hip joint replaced with a ceramic and titanium unit. the entry was anterior. i have severe groin pain. it's appears to be the psoas. the surgeon thinks there may be cup impingement, has indicated psoas release surgery. i'm in disbelief.

Get second opinion.: Anytime you are not comfortable with the information you receive from any doctor, get a second opinion.  It is the smart thing to do.  Though well-adjusted docs have no problems with you doing this, and often encourage you to do so, others may get peeved about it.  If so, it says something about that doc's attitude and/or professionalism.   You are always entitled to a second opinion.

Hip impingement pain: Femoroacetabular impingement encompasses a constellation of problems about the hip joint that cause pain with combined hyperflexion and internal rotation. Pain results from the hip bone impinging upon the rim of the acetabulum.  Either a prominence of bone on the femoral head-neck junction  (Cam lesion) or on the acetabular rim (pincer lesion) and labral tear are noted at surgery when indicated.

Hip joint: Femoral acetabulum impingement is fancy doctor speak for hip joint impingement. I assume you are seeing an orthopedic surgeon for difficulty/pain/decreased range of motion in your hip. FAI: Cam impingement, also known as fai, is seen in both genders. Some types are much more common in young males, but other types can be seen in equal numbers in both sexes. Nerve root: impingement can lead to loss of function. Motor nerve root transmits impulses to muscles which may atrophy over time if the root compression cannot be alleviated. Sensory nerve root impingement will cause sensory symptoms (numbness, parasthesias and pain) in that nerve root territory. Displacement of a nerve does not necessarily result in dysfunction unless the nerve is stretched or compressed.

possible rotator cuff tear or impingement? how can i tell?

Rotator Cuff: In most cases it's very difficult to tell the difference between the two, however significant loss of function (i.e. Strength) is one good way to determine if the cuff  is torn rather than just pinched. Even then, advanced imaging such as MRI may be required and in some cases a steroid injection may help your doctor determine the difference. Best of luck!
