Most : Most teens will experience acne. It is so common that it is considered a normal part of puberty. Acne (black heads, white heads and pimples) happen due to the hormonal changes happening as your body develops. These hormonal changes send signals to your glands to produce a substance called "sebum." when the body produces too much, acne develops.

Yes, eating healthy is a good way to help with acne. Avoid fried foods and foods that are high in fat.  Other things you can help are:

1. Use a mild soap and warm water when cleaning your face to diminish irritation to the skin
2. Use oil-free skin products (such as lotions, sunscreen) as these products do not clog your pores.
3. Avoid getting products on you skin - they clog your pores.
4. Try not to touch your face to much - oils/sweat from your hands can clog pores
5. Don't pop your blemishes
6. Apply ice to the blemishes each night - to decrease swelling and irritaion

for severe acne, see a dermatologist. There are medications that can be prescribed by a doctor that can help clear up severe acne.

No one knows but...: I know of no formal research on this so it is impossible to say what is "the best" but there are many home remedies including apple cider vinegar, calendula,tea tree oil, iodine solution and proteolytic enzymes that are reported to help, though none help all the time and some may have side effects. Depends: It really depends on your skin type.  Oil of olay, roc and nivea have great products.  You can go to any of the drug stores that have a specialist and get some advice.  If it is severe, you should see a dermatologist.

Manage it: Multiple pimples is usually acne; blemishes is a "pop" euphemism for acne and it leaves dark spots. Before you or someone you care about ends up with scars, manage it. Forget about "skin types" or trying to figure out "why". If topical benzoyl peroxide or retinoic acid hasn't cleared you in two weeks, you need to add prescription-strength Rx from your physician.

Manage this now: Topical benzoyl peroxide and/or retinoic acid clear maybe half of acne cases in teens. Her physician may add spironolactone, a topical (clindamycin) or systemic antibiotic (plain tetracycline is a good cheap choice), or start the oral contraceptive pill which depending on her biology can offer other health benefits. Isotretinoin for severe cases.

Acne in pregnancy: Your ob/gyn can give you a combination clindamycin/benzoil peroxide that can be applied 2 times in a day. Call the office and ask for them to call it into the pharmacy. It is topical and not systemically absorbed. Good luck.

Benzoyl peroxide: For treatment of acne, any brand of over-the-counter Benzoyl Peroxide Gel or cream is quite helpful. An acne "wash" is not needed. If desired, a doctor can add an antibiotic gel or cream such as Cleocin (clindamycin phosphate) gel. If more help is needed, prescription retinoids such as Retin-A or differin gel can be used instead of benzoyl peroxide. Oral antibiotics such as tetracycline can be used also.

Which ones?: It's very difficult to answer broad open ended questions. Let's assume that you're referring to prescription acne medications. By definition, all have to effective to be approved by FDA for use in States. There has to be some level of safety too. However, some are safer than others.
