No: Tightness over the patella with bending most often represents fluid within the joint (effusion). Typically the knee no longer swells after 3 weeks, so this may be from associated damage to the knee such as cartilage defects or meniscus tears. The range of causes is too wide, so it would be best to ask your surgeon!

i had acl reconstruction surgery and my surgeon said that my patella tendon graft was too long. is that bad? can someone explain how he fixed it?

Acl: Not sure exactly but if the graft was "too long" the knee may end up loose. I'm not sure what he meant by "too long" because I have never seen that before. If the surgery was completed I am convinced that your knee will do well

i had acl reconstruction both knees- 2005 left and 2009 right. both are torn again 100%. doctor suggests new surgeries by taking tendons from patella.

ACL tears: Its unfortunate that both are once again torn. You need the ACL for joint stability otherwise you will have to wear a knee stabilizer. I think repeat surgery is a reasonable option. You will have to be extremely careful once this is done.

Many graft choices: The latest multicenter level I clinical trials confirm that both allograft (donated cadaveric frozen tissue) and autograft (your own tisse; e.g., patellar BTB or hamstring, etc.) do very well for providing excellent outcomes for the unstable ACL deficient knee. Allografts have no harvest site morbidity. Discuss both options with your surgeon.

A common problem: Most postoperative patellar tendinitis is "self-limiting" and tends to fade away during the course of the necessary rehabilitation for your new ligament. Stretching, icing, NSAIDs, and motion or often all that is needed to make the tendinitis go away.

Depends: Your Surgeon is in best position to tell you. Sometimes full range of motion is never achieved after surgery even with PT

Reevaluation: Swelling can occur especially after a physically taxing day.  If it does not improve, recommend notifying your orthopedic surgeon for followup visit.  NSAIDs may be taken to help with reducing swelling

Patella pain ACL : It is not uncommon to have pain in the front of your knee after knee surgery especially.  The muscles around might of become less flexible and the soft tissue hold the patella in place might of become tighter.  I would take mild anti-inflammatories,  start a good hamstring and quadriceps stretching program. Ice your knee. As well as contact your surgeon to see what else he wants you to do.

are standing leg extensions okay to get after acl surgery?

Depends...: Check your surgeons post-op protocol and/or check with your physical therapist. Together they will be able to answer specific questions about your exercises and recovery.
