can u get gastric sleeve with acid reflux?

Yes.: There are different causes of acid reflux. Most commonly it is caused by a hiatal hernia (a weakness in the diaphragm muscle) which can be repaired.  Other causes include obesity, bacterial infection and esophageal muscle weakness (low les pressure). As long as no permanent damage a sleeve can be done safely.

May not benefit: Simple gastric sleeve resection may not benefit you , if you are a candidate  for weight loss surgery , gastric bypass will be beneficial to you , due to  " Roux  'N'  Y "   procedure .

No: Gastric reflux is a normal physiologic event that occurs at varied intensity to all. Symptoms arise  in some  after triggering events, which are commonly infectious and persist when dietary practices aggravate the problem.Try eliminating caffeine or nicotine from your life,foods that you find irritating, and avoid reclining after meals. Short term use of available meds may also help.

Accepted Answer

Yes...: The restriction imposed by the gastric bypass operation is a set-up for reflux especially if you eat too fast or too much.  Slow down your eating, consume smaller portions and use an acid blocker if necessary to treat symptoms of reflux.  Good luck!

Poss Food allergy : If continued pain and or bloating after eating but not associated with any evidence of ulcer disease, may wish to consider food allergy testing

: Do you mean art.blood pH or urine dipstick pH?  Need more info. One needs both to see where you are. Also blood electrolytes.  Wikipedia has a good discussion of alkalosis and acidosis and the Henderson-Hasselbac equation.  One needs to read this several times with a pencil and paper to work with before it becomes clear. is it considered to be a normal symptom for a gastric ulcer and gallstone patient to have to sleep sitting up straight due to burning pain in stomach area if lying down. i have no acid reflux. i'm already on 40mg x 2 of ppi. this was after chocolate.

Reflux: It's true that the discomfort of reflux occurs in the esophageal area(chest) especially in the reclining position. In my experience gastric ulcers often have atypical symptoms and it could be causing your distress or perhaps reflux is being felt in the lower esophagus near the stomach junction. Chocolate can produce reflux. Since you're so symptomatic, I hope you're under the care of a gastroenter

Post op anemia: Most likely is a reflection of some blood loos during the surgery, which is not unusual. It takes around 3 months for your blood levels to normalize. At this point it is very unlikely that your anemia is due to some sort of vitamin deficiency. I would not worry about. Just continue taking your vitamin supplements. And follow up labs in a few months.

1/2 a cup of food: Should eat 4oz meals at a time. This way you don't vomit or feel sick. Should eat this portion size at every sitting. If vomiting then eating to fast and taking to big of a bite.

i had a gastric sleeve 4 weeks aga when can i exercise?

Accepted Answer

At this point: Most surgeons including myself recommend waiting about 4 weeks prior to exercising after major surgery. Keep in mind every one is different so you really should just call your surgeon to confirm if it is okay to start exercising. Incidentally you are 1 month postop so you should be following up with your bariatric surgeon anyway.
