Reflux: The symptoms you describe are consistant with reflux, or stomach acid leaking up into esophagus. Upper GI imaging can be helpful, until you see your doctor elevating the head of your bed, bedtime antacids such as Gaviscon, and otc meds such as Nexium may help. Stopping smoking and weight loss can also help.

Sounds like Reflux: Probably reflux which can be related to certain things you eat and drink and alcohol especially can cause reflux.  I would tread carefully you might find wine is ok or makes reflux come back.

You can also now take over the counter anti-acid like Prilosec to help with reflux symptoms.

Hiatal hernia: Yes you can have symptoms of gagging with a hiatal hernia.

Unlikely: I think that would be extremely unlikely, but one can "never say never". It also depends on how the LPR was diagnosed. If you haven't had a formal pH study, you should consider if since your having problems. There are woress studies for 48 hours that measure acid only, and 24 hr studies that measure acid and non-acid reflux. Consider a consult with a GI doctor interested in esophageal testing.

Where to start: More Information is essential, but it prob is bad reflux (usually worse lying down lying down simply to gravity).sounds like w/hiatal hernia (see pic) which can be more sx&#x27;atic.Often chron cough and hoarse voice from food going &quot;wrong way&quot; into breath tube &amp; irritate voc cords.PPIs should help, but need to see GI and/or ENTI to check for more advanced damage.Oth poss dx but w/out eval this fits

Mold: Exposure is a possible explanation for the start of your symptoms that are eventually now maintained by reflux. Other causes for your current symptoms cannot be ruled out and follow up with your treating doc should help in clarifying and further addressing your symptoms.

Reflux: It sounds like you are bringing up acid from your stomach. Try a daily over-the-counter medicine like omeprazole. If that doesn't work after a few weeks see your doctor. Don't stay on it forever. If this has been going on for a while give it a month or 2, then go to every other day for a month and cut down slowly. Consider cutting down (or out) coffee & alcohol. Definitely stop smoking if you smok.

Pharyngeal flux: Laryngopharyngeal reflux can occur in the  absence of much eating. And caffeine can aggravate this. In addition, a hiatal hernia may predispose you to reflux. Problems. Start by eliminating caffeine. If no better, see your doctor.

LPR...: The reflux of fluid from your stomach which is frequently acidic, is called laryngopharyngeal reflux (lpr).  This is a common variant of gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd).  It is treated the same as gerd with aggressive acid-suppressive drugs but tends to be more difficult to treat.  If this is a recurrent problem then see you doctor.
