Packing: Wounds like this are typically treated with packing and healing by secondary intent.  Oral antibiotics are often used but the wound must not be closed and be allowed to heal from inside to outside in this manner.

i have a wound from a perirectal abscess surgery that has fully healed after nearly 3 months. what could be wrong? what can be done to help healing?

Sweat gland infectio: You might have had sweat gland infection/abscess. It usually heals if not need to rule out infection with resistant bugs like MRSA. Have it cultured and treated appropriately.

i had a skin abscess drained 3 days ago & put on antibiotics. wound is now 2-3 larger & looks like a deep hole. is this normal for healing?

Need follow-up: Tough to say what is normal or not normal over computer.  After an i&d, the area may be larger.  Best is to call the provider, and get a re-check on the area to assure it is not worsening or getting infected.  The provider who did the I&D knows your clinical case best and "first hand, " and will be able to more adequately provide your care.  Good luck.

See your doc: Unfortunately, you didn't describe your wound, much less how you got it and how it was repaired. It would also be helpful to understand why you consider it abnormal. Wounds that come apart need to be re-evaluated. Same if increase pain, redness, pus, etc. Scar is an known complication. Some will develop an intense scar reaction known as a keloid. Best to see doc who put you back together.

Wound healing: Granulation tissue occurs in all wounds. In primary wound healing it is not exposed to the outside as it in secondary wound healing.

what are the roles of cytokines and integrins in wound healing?

Signal and control: Cytokines are secreted by cells as a from of cell-cell communication in order to control and coordinate celleluar response to injury. Integrins are proteins found in the extracellular matrix that are also signals that help coordinate and direct cell attatchment and behavior. All of these chemicals are involved in initiating annd directing proper wound healing.

Many causes: If there is sudden change in wound healing you may want to see a physician for an evaluation and at very least recommendation for treatment due to a specific wound type. The reasons are numerous and can be as innocuous as the site of injury being one that heals more slowly to things such as diabetes, nutritional issues, vascular disease, or other systemic processes.

Wound healing: Wound healing is a complex mechanism that requires many factors to come into play so that the body can repair a wound generally, poor wound healing indicates that the body is responding in a sub-optimal way to injury. Metabolic disorders, cancer, nutritional factors and medications, among others, can  interfere in the body's response to a wound and to the ability  to heal.
