is it ok to take all the supplements dr oz recommends?

Accepted Answer

No: Just like me telling you what to do, dr. Oz has not examined you nor does he know your medical problems.  Although supplements are good, too much are bad.  I am a vegetarian and believe in getting vitamins and minerals naturally.  Be careful.

Not likely: She is likely creating very expensive urine where most of the excess vitamins end up. I think people who take ridiculous amounts of vitamins are wack jobs and should spend their money on a good gym membership. If she wants to stay alive and healthy she needs to be working out every day not popping pills.

Probably unhealthy: Real testosterone pills, gels, etc... do work, but they are used only for certain disorders in which doctors have seen good research evidence that testosterone would help, or for problems that doctors have years of experience suggesting testosterone would help. The "pills" and "supplements" marketers try to sell as testosterone boosters are unresearched, unregulated, uncertain, and may be unsafe.

dr recommends 1000 iu of vit. d a day.  what should i look for in buying a supplement?

Recommend: 2000iuD3: Vitamin d levels are inversely correlated with risks for prostate, breast, and colon cancer; inversely related to heart disease and stroke.  I agree with your doctor, but the national academy of medicine recommends 2000iu d3.
Most soft gel formulations are quite small, easy to take.  I order mine through www.Puritan.Com. I take 5000iu.

my b12 level is 205. how much b12 should i supplement to get my levels up? have all the symptoms.  i do have dr. f/u soon.

May not need any: Your B12 levels are at the low end of normal and you may not need supplement. If you are considered deficient it would depend on the cause of deficiency and that would drive oral supplement vs. injection. See this site for more info.

Maybe. Maybe not.: There are thousands of supplements advertised to do all sorts of magical remedies. Very few supplements have real research studies to show benefits (but manufacturers make claims, based on theories, animal tests, testimonials, chemical similarities, etc... but not based on real research because real research is hard to do and is expensive to do).

See below: If you want to gain weight start by changing your diet and exercise plan. You'll gain weight if you're consuming more calories than you're burning. Do not choose junk food. Make sure you're getting all your necessary nutrients in calorie rich food. Also, by weight lifting you can increase your muscle mass. If these changes aren't working after several weeks, see your doctor for a specialized plan.

Ginseng: Suma is ginseng- it is used to help the body adapt to stress by iimproving the immune system.  It also has been used in cancer and tumors, diabetes, wound healing, and other skin problems, more evidnce is needed to rate the effectiveness of suma for these uses.

Which ones?: There are multiple p90x supplements -- from multivitamin to other products.  From a scan of the multivitamin label, it looks like a decent product but does not provide enough vit d, and does not specify on the vit a how much is pre-formed and how much is in the form of beta-carotene.  Whether the rest of their offerings are "effective" depends on what you're seeking & which products you mean.

Neem supplements: Neem is a tree, and the bark, leaves, and seeds are used to make medicines.  Some research indicates it can help with gingivitis (gum inflammation), and stomach & intestinal ulcers.  There are other uses that need more research -- such as for malaria, worms, head lice, birth control, etc.
