i am 33  old female with upper epigastric pain under xiphoid process. better in the morning, worse by evening, i have mid lt back pain near spine. i have had neg. abd. ct, upper endo, stool test, lipase and abd ul 4 months ago. symptoms still persist?

Upper abdomen: Your tests appear to have ruled out gastritis,peptic ulcer and pancreatitis. Has the gastroenterologist ruled out common duct stone, cholangitis, hepatitis?  Is another gastroscopy been considered to look for an occult gastric ulcer?

See your doctor: You definitely  need some testing done, would suggest an ultrasound and blood work including a   standard set of blood test. Major possibilities include Gallbladder,  pancreas or stomach ulcers. The above test will point the way to further investigations.

Muscular or: This can be muscular or something abdominal. A good exam can help delineate this. Any nausea or gas?

an empty/hollow feeling in upper abdomen with what feels like something is flip flopping. when i point to where the feeling is its right below my xiphoid process. i feel this even when i'm not hungry but food does suppress this for a few hours.

Stomach discomfort: Is this new? May be just hunger pangs or may be gastritis /reflux( though usually food may makes it worse) . with or without H pylori a bacteria.    or esophagitis  or gallbladder, though usually food does make that worse.  Antacids like Maalox, ranitidine Prevacid may help .  For H pylori you need antibiotics.  for gallbladder need ultrasound to diagnose. f/u/ w/ doc

Xiphoid: The xiphoid process is a cartilage at the bottom of the sternum and as such can become tender or irritated. However it shouldn't cause waves of discomfort in other areas of the abdomen as the tenderness is well localized to the end it the sternum. If you're experiencing frequent abdominal discomfort and tenderness in the actual abdomen,you should be evaluated by a physician.

See doctor: This needs a direct exam and testing by a doctor.   It is not normal.  Endometriosis is one thing which came to my mind.

Doctor can evaluate: Upper abdominal pain can be from "acid" pains, such as a stomach ulcer, just gastritis with no ulcer, or reflux (heartburn). An infection with H. pylori bacteria can lead to stomach ulcer pains (an acid blocker can help). One needs more evaluation by her primary care doctor. Heart disease, rib and cartilage problems, pancreatitis, gallstones, or liver problems can cause upper abdominal pain.

Very likely you are: Experiencing gastroesophageal reflux disease.  This problem will definitely cause the symptoms you describe.  You should avoid alcohol, coffee and tea (including decaf), and highly seasoned foods.  Lists of foods to avoid are available in the internet.  Then you should be taking one off the many medicines that decrease stomach acid, ranitidine (Zantac), famotidine (Pepcid), pantoprazole (Protonix)
