Doctor can evaluate: Upper abdominal pain can be from "acid" pains, such as a stomach ulcer, just gastritis with no ulcer, or reflux (heartburn). An infection with H. pylori bacteria can lead to stomach ulcer pains (an acid blocker can help). One needs more evaluation by her primary care doctor. Heart disease, rib and cartilage problems, pancreatitis, gallstones, or liver problems can cause upper abdominal pain.
