Not relevant: When we are checking blood counts during pregnancy, assuming that the basic counts related to hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelets are normal for pregnancy, then we really do not spend too much time looking at these individual parameters related to red blood cells.  If there is a more specific problem being asked, please ask!

i am 38 weeks and 1 day pregnant. had some bleeding. wasn't a lot maybe 2 tablespoons worth. no mucus, pain or contractions. stopped. is this normal?

Not normal: Any bleeding at this point during pregnancy is not normal until proven otherwise by your OB MD. When the placenta is  situated ahead of the fetus prior to labor (placenta previa) bleeding can ensue prior to actual labor contractions which can only make the bleeding worse. Contact your OB MD about this matter now.

would a d&c be performed if a mother is miscarrying at 37/38 weeks pregnancy? and if so, how soon before the patient is discharged?

Accepted Answer

Term pregnancy: At that point, the pregnancy is full term and will be "stillborn."  A sad situation and I feel for her.
She will likely have her labor induced and deliver vaginally if possible.  The length of stay in the hospital will be similar to one for a regular birth.  This assumes the mother doesn't have a complication such as an infection.

i'm 38 weeks pregnant and had a cervical exam done today.  i've been bleeding and have passed some blood clots. is this normal or should i be worried?

Depends: After a cervical exam it is common to pass some mucous and sometimes some blood tinged mucous. This is from the doctor examining a dilated cervix. This should be light and minimal. If you are truly passing blood clots and not blood tinged mucous you should be seen in the hospital immediately.

Obgyn evaluation: You will need to contact your Obgyn to arrange an evaluation. Since you are near term you will need to make sure you did not break your water. You could just be dilating and passing your mucous plug. An evaluation will be needed to determine what is going on.

im 38 weeks pregnant , my stomach went out yesterday and my bum was bleeding a little bit but today my stool is completely bloody and when i wipe it looks like liver but it turns into blood when broken down.

Bleeding and pregnan: Any bleeding this late in pregnancy has to be evaluated. You do not mention any cramping (which may imply Uterus) - More than likely its hemorrhoids which is very common. I would check with the OB/GYN just to be sure.

May be: You are near term with a risk of bleeding. I would recommend holding off on sexual activity till after delivery.

im 28 weeks 5 days in my 3rd trimester. i was having sexual intercourse with my partner for about 10 mins and then we stopped, i started giving him oral sex and notice that i had light bleeding going on. is it normal ?

: I If it was light with no other symptoms and stopped then you should be OK. If not pl see your OB right away. Gently is the motto about sex during pregnancy

No: You are at increased risk of bleeding form the placenta 
pre via when your cervix contracts.  This usually happens around the 32 weeks so be careful.

swelling during pregnancy after 38 weeks  ?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Swelling is common, as the fetus takes up so much room that vascular and other body parts are being moved and squeezed, so it is common to have a back up of fluid, especially in the extremities. At 38 weeks you should be seen by your OB for anything however. You are close! congratulations and good luck!
