Depends on variables: The fever if present should respond within 48 hrs. Other issues such as ear pressure, congestion & drainage may take longer.Fluid that builds up behind the ear drum as part of the process can remain for weeks.

Needs a recheck: Taking an antibiotic for an ear infection does not protect into the future. If he is symptomatic again, he may have another infection. The only way to know is to have his doctor examine him. In the meantime, use Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen as tolerated for pain.

Diaper rash ???: Intake of any oral antibiotics can kill off many friendly germs in the digestive tract. This allows the yeast germs to increase in population &amp; often triggers a yeast diaper rash. This is usually treated with an anti-fungal cream. Call the kids doc.

Bronchitis/ otitis: He may have bronchitis and /or an upper respiratory infections with a co-existing otitis media. Best to see your pediatrician for this and the recurrent ear infections.

Depends: With treatment, i generally see the fever come down in the first 24-36 hrs on the penicillin family of meds and 48-72 hrs with a cephalosporin.   This assumes the ear infection is the only issue. If no response within that time frame, there could be a resistant germ that requires a different drug.

The antibiotic : Was for the ear infection not the cough unless she had a bacterial infection for the cough then antibiotic would play a role. Cough may just be allergy or cold related. If condition worsened, she needs to see pediatrician again

Someone looks: In the absence of fever, change in appetite or behavior i wouldn't assume an ear infection. In an unpublished study during residency we found only around 5% of kids pulling their ears as a presenting complaint had one. To be certain, only someone looking into the ear with proper equipment would be able to say for sure.

Wax: You can use hydrogen peroxide to control the wax. When your child's nose is running use salt water nose drops to try avoiding the mucus getting into the middle ears to cause infection.
