Cochlear implant
A medical device that is implanted surgically through the bone behind the ear in patients who have lost their hearing or were born with severe to profound hearing loss. The device is inserted within the inner ear to bypass the malfunctioning cells that normally convey sound to the brain. The device hears for the patient and sends electric impulses that conveyssound perception to the damaged ear.
