What are some of the causes of deafness in children that can be treated with a cochlear implant?

Multiple causes: Genetic, malformation of the inner ear, infection, and exposure to toxic medications may all cause hearing loss. If a hearing nerve is present on imaging studies, all of these hearing losses, if severe, may be treated with a cochlear implant.

Not a quick answer: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3195958/ Please refer to this article in an ever changing world of such indications. The procedure comes with risks, side effects, failure, loss of anatomy and hearing loss too. I would talk to a well trained ENT specialist and be counselled before this procedure.
