Cochlear implant: There are centers around the country. I see you are in maryland. If close, go to hopkins. They have an excellent program.

Specialized ENTs: Children can have implants performed by pediatric ents with special training in cochlear implants or by neurotologists. It depends on the center you go to which doctor will be the one to do it. In all cases there will be a team of specialists (ents, audiologists, speech therapists, psychologists etc) who will evaluate such kids before the implant is performed.

At what age is it too late for a child to get a Cochlear implant?

Depends on loss: If hearing loss is present at birth, implantation would be ideal at 12 months of age. Performance significantly decreases the longer it is to implantation, with many people reluctant to implant after 8-10 years. If the child had hearing and then lost it suddenly, the sooner the better. If hearing loss was gradual, probably could benefit at any time.

Very rare: Thete are a very small amount of people that would have a sensitivity to the coating of the implant, but extremely rare. Some children choose not to use the device because of social or personal reasons, but medical rejection of the device is quite uncommon.
