Minimal: Oral herpes is usually due to the virus hsv 1. Genital herpes is due to hsv2. Most people have been exposed to hsv1 in early childhood, and this is not sexually transmitted. Hsv 2 is an std and can be transmitted even if the infected person has no active symptoms. Most herpes outbreaks don't require to, but if you have many, painful lesions a dr can prescribe antiviral for symptoms, not cure.

What do you mean?: Did you have a "cold sore"? Did you have a culture or blood test? Do you have hsv1 or hsv2? Does the other person have symptoms? Has the other person had a culture or blood test? See a dermatologist if you are worried. Most people carry hsv1 since childhood with no symptoms or with occasional "cold sore". This responds well to a pill for reduction of symptoms but no cure.
