Oral contraceptives contain estrogen which can cause an increase in thyroid hormone binding proteins. Initially, this may result in slightly lowered thyroid hormone levels. Over time your body will increase the amount of thyroid hormone to compensate, so the effect will only be seen for the first month or so.
