Birth control effectiveness remains good but be a little more cautious if you do not have good cycle control (irregular bleeding). The larger concern is that the effect of lamotrigine is decreased so that larger doses are required when you are on the birth control pill.

In most cases, lamotrigine is safe to take with birth control pills, as interactions are either non-existent or trivial. But the ultimate opinion would be in consultation with your OB-GYN specialist. If there are concerns about lamotrigine levels, a blood test can readily resolve.
