A member asked:

Is there a possibility that a negative hiv combo test that was negative 5 months after unprotected sex changes to positive with no further exposure? i know the test says 99.99 accurate so i feel like its possible for it to change or miss the virus?

The sensitivity of a fourth generation HIV test is 99.7% by CDC study. So out of 1,000 tests, there are 3 false negative tests so if your infection is confirmed, you are unfortunately one of the three with false negative result in 1,000 tested subjects.
