A member asked:

How do i know if i have a benign fluid collection or abscess? i had surgery on outer labia recently, and there is a tender lump a couple inches below the area of operation towards anus. no fever, no pain with bm - only pain with palpation?

A tender lump, especially with reddened skin is a sign of infection. Have the operating surgeon examine and advise you. In the meantime apply warm compresses.

Hard to tell without an exam. Abscess will be tender. tense, and reddish in color chances are it is a collection of fluid. Best to see your surgeon. Hopwe you feel better.
