The general rule is not to eat or drink anything after midnight the day prior to surgery. Your usual meals would be okay unless the doctors told you specific things to avoid, but I know of none.

One thing that I've found to be important in your preparation is to clear your bowels as much as possible before this surgery to avoid the need to strain soon after surgery.

Surgery for suspected torsion is not elective but an emergency. For elective surgery you need to fast overnight (nothing by mouth). It is all going to be good if done by a good surgeon and you wont have any more discomfort than can be handled by oral pain meds. Good luck.
