A member asked:

Tested positive for herpes 1 and 2 1:60 igm titer for both. is this a high number? i had a 2/3 bumps on my top pubic area?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bumps are nonspecific and do not confirm anything. A positive IgM test, without any other data, does not prove that you have a new herpes infection -- it could represent an infection you had in the past. You should also have an IgG test done. If the IgG is also positive, you almost certainly do not have a new herpes infection. A positive IgM test alone is more likely to be a new infection.
