A member asked:

Is the depo birth control shot effective after the 7th day of getting it? i did not get the shot on my period.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depo shot ?: The depo-progesterone shot is effective in preventing pregnancy if it is given prior to ovulation, as its function prevents implantation of a fertilized egg. However, depending on if you ovulated prior to the depo shot, you could still be pregnant, as once implanted, the fertilized egg will be maintained even with long acting progesterone on board.
