You should be protected because you switch directly the contraceptive method from pill to shot even the shot may not be given during the first 5 days of your cycle. You think you had a withdrawing bleeding not a regular period, I guess. Take care!

Many OBGYNs will suggest using backup protection when switching between BC types, to be sure the body adapts, and ovulation does not occur during the transition. You may be protected, depending on how you used the previous method. If avoiding pregnancy is a major concern, I would not consider protection immediate.
