Had pap smear, results where negative for hpv16 ,18& 31 among others. however insufficient cells could not get reading for abnormalities. cancer risk?

Minimal: A reading of inadequate cells means that there was not enough cells on the specimen to meet the criteria of the lab. It doesn't mean there was anything abnormal. The risk of cancer is minimal if the HPV tests are negatibve.

Maybe/not: There are at least 7 strains of HPV associated with cervical cancer but your testing found you did not carry the big 3. Having a poor specimen means they were unable to report the main goal of the pap. The pap smear has been around for decades before the link to HPV was known & remains an essential way to catch the disease in the stages when it can be easily treated. Risk at your age is small.
