Yes, but not perfect: A normal PAP suggests that you have no evidence of cervical dysplasia (precancerous cells). A positive HPV test indicates that you have active virus that can cause dysplasia, which can lead to cervical cancer years later. Women over 30 who have normal PAP, but persistently +HPV (two years), needs Colposcopy to make sure dysplasia was not missed on PAP. See ASCCP Guidelines. Take Care!
