Depends: This stool could be normal, but the black specks could also represent blood from an illness or allergy. If your child looks well then i would make a doctor appointment for early this next week to be evaluated. Go to the er if your child looks or acts sick.

Black or dark: If black tarry, it needs to be checked out right way for gi bleed. However, if it is just very dark, it could be something he ingested. Medications can sometimes cause dark stools and certain foods can darken the stool. Very dark is ok, black abd tarry is not

Consult your MD now: If your baby never poops on her own you need to discuss this with your pediatrician she may need to have x-rays to rule serious problems, like hirschsprung s disese.
