Those are conflict-: Ing terms. HFA = a child with autism whose overall IQ is >70, as in Asperger syndrome. The new diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder includes PDD-NOS, autism & AS. Global developmental delay = a child too young for formal IQ testing with 2 or > developmental delays. .The diagnosis changes to intellectual disability. For IQ <70 age 5 & >. Placement is based on educational & behavioral needs.

Aspergers: Can't really answer this question. Too many variables but a good educational consultant may be able to help. Here is my take on aspergers. Autism spectrum and aspergers in 8 mins. http://youtu.be/xg1ngp1ngds.

Ask school: The best think for your child is for you to team up with his teachers and school to get their opinion as to how he is doing. The school district is required by law to evaluate him to see if he needs special help if he has a confirmed medical diagnosis that may get in the way of his education. Sometimes you have to push the school to do it but collaborating is always best. Ask if he needs an iep.

If not progressing: Parent needs to type a letter to formally request an IEP (indiviualized educational program) from the school. Then they are federally mandated to help not lump on parent. First paragraph:how grades are being affected and second, list down what you you think may help if school did right e.g. smaller classroom, regular councelor visits , lower homework load, increase social participation etc
