Hi, i have hi cholesterol, diabetes, and erectile dysfunction, i take simvastatin and insulin is it bad if i take niacin to increase my hdl.?

Insulin resistance: It is important to discuss the matter with your doctor before taking any new medication, including over the counter ones. In your case Niacin may blunt the effect of insulin. There are other options to raise hdl, vigorous exercise being one.

No: Otc Niacin can cause mild increase in sugar- not significant in someone already on insulin. Best form to take is prescription Niaspan (niacin) which after 3 months has no significant increase in sugars. Safe to take either with simvastatin.
