Could be fibroids: Fibroids are the most common cause of heavy periods. The pain you describe could also be due to fibroids. When large they can press on pelvic nerves to cause pain in the pelvis, hips, buttocks, thighs, and down the legs. Talk to your doctor. While many places would obtain a pelvic ultrasound, pelvic MRI would actually be better. It delineates the fibroids to see if they correlate with your pain.
