PCOS?: It's hard to say what's going on for sure without more information; you really should see your doctor. If you are very young, it is normal to have irregular periods for the first year or so. If you are near menopause, then that is probably the cause. Otherwise, the most common cause of this would be polycystic ovarian syndrome. You need to have a period at least every 3 months so see your doc.

Hormonal imbalance: Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.
