Can i take the morning after pill while breastfeeding?

Yes: Yes, it is safe. Although you may have some vaginal bleeding, the morning-after pill (essentially higher-dose oral contraceptive pill) is safe for mothers and infants who are nursing. It will not work if you are already pregnant, of course.

Yes: Since mom's exposure to hormones in the morning-after-pill is of short duration, any hormones passed onto the baby via the breastmilk would also be of short duration. If desired, mom can pump and dump the breastmilk on the day(s) she takes the morning-after-pill. It is best if mom uses a reliable form of contraception, other than oral contraceptives, when breastfeeding a young baby.
