Blood in stool: Blood in the stool of children is not as serious a concern as it is in adults because colorectal cancer is so truly rare in children. The most common cause of rectal blood in children is an anal fissue, especially with constipation, in which passing a large, hard bm overstretches the anus and a small tear develops that can bleed. A gentle laxative like MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) powder (otc) will help.
