A 41-year-old member asked:

After researching i've found that i may have a pilonidal cyst but i have a white lump, not red, at the top of anus area. what's that mean?

Is it draining: Drainage from the area is more a telltale sign than skin color. Pilonidal cysts generally hurt alot and drain foul smelling fluid when infected. Some can sit dormant and just hurt . They usually requiring surgery to get rid of them .

I have a small moveable, painful lump at the top of my butt crack. Is this a pilonidal cyst? Slightly larger than a pea.

Probably Not: Pilonidal cysts are not very mobile. If this is movable, it may be some other benign process. I'd recommend seeing your doc for further eval.

You likely need surgery for that complication so you should see a surgeon if you have not seen one in the past.
