Options: Without more history, it is difficult to say. However, two common reasons would be a sexually transmitted disease or some sort of mechanical trauma. A visit to the doctor can provide diagnosis of the first. The latter can be mitigated by ensuring there is no repeat trauma to the area before it has a chance to heal.
