Bad case of butt and thigh rash: is it contact dermatitis from an allergy to something in my running shorts or is it a bacterial or fungal infection?

Doubt an allergic: Rash especially in those areas. Contact dermatitis combined with a sterile or infective folliculitis is more common especially in active runners. Have your doctor take a look. If wearing spandex running gear change up to loose cotton running shorts and cotton underwear in the meantime. Try witch hazel to dry up rash unless painful, then definitely see your doctor.
