A member asked:

Can i use erythromycin ophthalmic ointment for possible ocular herpes simplex?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Erythromycin is a useful antibiotic effective against susceptible bacteria. It has no action against viruses including the herpes virus. There are very good anti-virals to treat herpes and if you suspect this condition see you ophthalmologist for diagnosis and treatment as herpes untreated can sometimes cause vision to drop.
