A member asked:

So can i get tested for herpes simplex even if haven't had an outbreak?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Herpes simplex: Yes you can be tested for the presence of antibodies to this virus, although the assessment of whether it is types 1 or 2 cannot be reliably determined by antibody testing. If you have antibodies it means that the virus is in your body in a latent form. It may or may not ever produce active lesions. There is no way in which to predict this.
