That depends: - there could be swelling from the injury. But if the area is red/ pink, warm, tender, has red streaks or pus - you could have a serious infection. If the swelling was just in one area it could be a compartment syndrome. If the pain is increasing or there are signs of infection - please get prompt medical re-eval. It could be serious.

Yes: Any injury that needs stitches will likely swell for a period of time. If there is increased swelling and increased redness after stitches, that is not normal.
