KY or saline gel: After the bleeding stops use KY or saline gel multiple times throughout the day. Saline solution may soften the crusting. Use Afrin (oxymetazoline) for 3 days after the cessation of bleeding to constrict intranasal blood vessels (if not contraindicated).
