Overuse addiction: Topical nasal decongestants containing oxymetazoline are notorious for leading to rhinitis medicamentosa. This is a type of addiction where use of the spray helps relieve congestion, but with continued use, the nasal obstruction worsens unless the spray is used often. This can be very distressing. See an ENT or allergist for a treatment approach to get off oxymetazoline.
