Classic sign: This is a very classic description that you have a tooth where the inner nerve is very inflamed. Relief will come from either 1) getting a root canal (recommended), 2) extraction, or 3) the nerve dies and pain decreases but an abscess eventually forms. The pain can be very severe where pain medications dont seem to help. Seek treatment from your dentist or endodontist.

Get Help: When an infection occurs in a tooth a variety of symptoms develop. As the condition gets worse the pain may increase with heat and decrease with exposure to cold. I suggest that your description may be that of an advanced infection. Call your dentist for a proper examination and treatment. Good luck.

Root Canal: When the nerve of the tooth becomes inflamed, it often is painful to cold stimuli. As the inflammation moves deeper into the tooth, hot stimuli can become painful and cold stimuli actually relieve the pain. At this stage, only root canal or extraction are possible. You should see a dentist ASAP.

Dental pulp necrosis: Two options only: 1. Root canal treatment save a badly damaged or infected tooth instead of removing it. 2. Tooth extraction is the complete removal of a tooth from the jaw bone. Once you have dental pulp necrosis, there's no reversible cure.
