Oncologist started me on effexor (venlafaxine) xr for the hot flashes from tamoxifen.taking it for 1 week extremely tired & nausea.will benefits outweigh sideeffect?

Probably not: Nausea and fatigue are common side effects of effexor (venlafaxine). They can resolve with continued use of the med but often require that the Effexor (venlafaxine) be stopped. There are other meds that can help the hot flashes.

Difficult to judge..: It is my understanding that tamoxifen therapy can include these symptoms as side-effects. Also, one week is hardly time to establish a 'steady-state' level in the blood, much less the brain! dose in mg's may also make a significant difference. I'd certainly encourage you to give your doctor a call and see if his/her long-range experience is helpful. Ssri's commonly have the side effect of nausea..
