Allergic Reaction: You probably had an allergic reaction. Try using antihistamines, which block the effects of a chemical that triggers dog allergy symptoms. They're sold over the counter, like allegra, claritin, benadryl, (diphenhydramine) or zyrtec, or some by prescription. Some antihistamines are available as nasal sprays, for instance, astelin.

Worrisome info: You may have an allergy to dog dander or some product that has been used on the dog. This can be tested though blood or skin tests, if you are, you may need a daily antihistamine if you are going to be exposed to the animal on a regular basis.
