Oral Surgeon consult: Usually tooth #16 would be the tooth that was impacted, but it could be tooth #15. Impacted refers to a tooth that has not or cannot erupt into the normal position in the mouth. Only in special situations that would cause more harm than good, do we leave root tips behind. If the tooth was not removed by an oral surgeon, i would consult with one. Not a bad idea to consult with (another) one anyway.

Misunderstood term: The "area" can not be impacted--or "deeply entrenched, not easily removed. The tooth may be impacted; the wisdom tooth behind it may be impacted, the residual root may be impacted (that is, too close to the sinus to remove without risk to that structure). Sounds like a difficult extraction. Best to go back to the surgeon for an explanation.
