Varies: Certainly by the age of 28 years old, the growth plates have been closed for several years. Probably the three most common causes would be a malunion of your fracture (your bone might have healed "crooked"), or you have developed post-traumatic arthritis in that ankle joint, or it is a simple tendonitis. An exam an xray can almost certainly determine the cause. Thank you.

Ankle Growth Plate: Without an x ray and clinical exam it is hard to say what me be causing this. It is possible it is not even related at all. A history of sprains or trauma can cause inflammation in the joint which can be painful. It may have also cause changes to the cartilage. A good exam and possible MRI may be needed to look further at this.
