Why Questions: In medicine there is often no answer to the 'why' questions. Your question implies that scientists and physicians conspire to make it all confusing. There is no grand scheme. We are learning as we go. It is better to change when new information is learned than to refuse to change. Right?

Good Company: Yesterday's study results, lead to today's questions, and then tomorrow's better study design. Errors in methodology along the way get perpetuated until better studies come along. This is a continuing area of struggle for physicians as well. We try to determine which study results are correct, and pertain to the patient in front of us.
