Varies with person: Some situations are much more complicated than others, especially in the context of past or present abuse. Suicidal thoughts can be quite intense during depressive parts of bipolar, and one hopes they will remit as the mood episode does. If not, more is going on that needs to be addressed in therapy. I know many bipolar patients who feel quite well when not sick -- they can work, love & play.

Suicidal thoughts : Are not diagnostic of bipolar disorder although they can certainly occur. Many people are able to work past their suicidal thoughts. My hope for you is that you will also work beyond yours or that they will at least be less intense or less frequent. Take care.
