Hiatal hernia: Large hiatal hernias may very well be associated with gerd, but patients can have hiatal hernias without reflux symptoms. Just get treated for reflux and don't concern yourself with the size of the hernia at this point. Make sure that you don't have barrett's esophagus.

Hernia is small: This size hiatal hernia is really nothing to worry about. If your gerd symptoms don't favorably respond to lifestyle changes and medical therapy, a surgical procedure for gerd would also repair the hernia. You would need to see an experienced laparoscopic surgeon for this. Hope this helps!
